All about the Dropson filter can
HOW DID THE IDEA COME ABOUT?

Faced with this problematic situation, the Spanish company Dropson, with more than 15 years of experience in the sector of new generation water treatment and aware of the serious situation that our planet and especially marine ecosystems are suffering, has worked for 3 long years in the development of an innovative system capable of filtering quality water directly from the tap: the filter can.

The Dropson filter can is a real and sustainable alternative solution that aims to meet the high demand for water consumption that exists, reducing the environmental impact that plastic waste from bottled water generate in our ecosystem.

The filter can is intended for all audiences. On the one hand, for all those who want to drink tap water without having to renounce quality or excellent taste, and on the other hand, for all those committed to the environment and concerned about the environmental impact of plastic waste.

WHY DROPSON?
The Dropson filter is able to filter up to 300 litres of water directly from the tap, comfortably because it will avoid you having to carry heavy water bottles, faster than other filters since it is a system that does not need installation and has a direct filtration speed of 1 to 1´5 litres per minute, efficient, economical* and ecological.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The filter can is very simple and practical to use, does not need installation or replacement cartridges. We explain you the step by step:
- Remove the top and bottom protective cap from the can, which will be place again at the end of each use.
- We remove the plastic safety ring and discard it (in the yellow container).
- We insert the can into the tap thanks to its universal flexible diaphragm. (In case of not adapting, make use of the adapter that includes and that we will explain later).
- Slowly open the tap, always holding the can with your hand and let the first two liters pass without consuming to make the adjustment of the system.*
- Once we have made use of the filter can, we incline the can slightly until we take out the tap of the interior of the diaphragm and we return to place the protection covers. Keep it in the fridge until the next use.**
* Psss, Psss… Use the first two liters of water to water your plants!
** Store the can in the refrigerator or in a cool place to ensure optimal conditions and prolong its bacteriostatic effect. Never store in the freezer or in direct sunlight.
Note: After each use, never shake the can to remove any excess water that may remain, the inner membrane could be damaged. If you wish to remove the water, tilt the can slightly in both directions to remove excess water.

HOW DO I CONTROL THE FLOW?
To ensure the proper functioning of the filter, it is important that the flow is correct. For that, it should be between 1 to 1.5 litres per minute.
To check, it is recommended to hold the can with one hand and with the other, open the tap slowly. We should fill a large 200cl glass between 5 and 8 seconds or a 1l jug between 60 and 90 seconds.
If it is not possible to calculate the flow rate of 1 l/min with certainty, simply open the tap and regulate it until a homogeneous, transparent and splash-free flow of water is achieved.
HOW LONG DOES A DROPSON FILTER LAST?
The Dropson filter can has an estimated filtration capacity of 300L of water. The duration of this will depend on the quality of the water and the consumption. To ensure optimum filter performance, it should be replaced 3 months after the water first passes through the filter.
Now, with Dropson Control, the free mobile app for Iphone and Android, control your can usage time is easier. This app with time indicator allows you to calculate the estimated capacity limit of the filter by letting you know when it’s time to replace it with a new one.
MY FAUCET DOESN’T FIT! SO WHAT NOW?
The Dropson filter can has been designed to fit most standard taps easily thanks to its flexible diaphragm. If this is not the case, use the universal adapter for incompatible taps included in the filter.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO MAKE THE FILTER CAN?
We could differentiate our product in two parts: the external part, designed with polypropylene, a 100% recyclable food and medical plastic; and the internal part, the filtering area, designed only with biodegradable natural materials.
A micrometric membrane based on microfibres of vegetable origin created with micro particles of activated carbon and a natural bacteriostatic agent of organic origin that guarantees perfect hygiene inside the system, transforming tap water into quality water and eliminating bad taste and smell.
WHAT DOES THE DROPSON CAN FILTER AND WHAT DOESN´T?
Tap water in Spain is drinkable and considered fit for human consumption, respecting the criteria and quality standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), but it can always be improved.
The use of a water filter acts as a protective barrier against variations in water quality, for example, depending on the state of the pipes in each home, thus offering you a water with the guarantee of quality and maximum safety.
Water companies use chlorine (in minimal amounts that are not harmful to health) to sterilize the water and eliminate any microorganisms that may drag it along to our faucet. This chemical makes tap water taste less pleasant.
In short, the Dropson filter can:

Composed of vegetable microfibres, activated carbon dust and natural bacteriostatic elements, they protect the water against micrometric organic particles.
With an estimated filtration capacity of 300 liters, it has concentrated on treating the most controversial components for health, filtering and totally eliminating from water; chlorine and chloramine, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), pesticides, organochlorine insecticides, herbicides, trihalomethanes (THM), heavy metals etc.
The can respects the natural minerals such as calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate of the water as these are important and beneficial for health, getting a more balanced water.
To dispense the minerals from the water we would have to add a descaling resin inside the can, with micro spheres of plastic styrene divinylbenzene. The styrene is a controversial component in the form of micro plastic very harmful for the environment.
These plastic polymers are those that we can find in the cartridges of the filtering jars or salt decalcifiers. Since the WHO does not stipulate limits for minerals, we have preferred not to dispense with them, thus avoiding the controversial decalcaling resin. Our logic of environmental protection has led us to create the filter can.
The Dropson filter is a globally traded product. It has been tested and approved by SGS, a world leader in inspection, certificates and European food standards.
Note: The Dropson can has not been designed to filter hot water, as the manufacturing materials could deteriorate.

1. Plastic reduction:
A Dropson can has an estimated average capacity of 300 litres of water, and with only 85g of plastic, it replaces or is equivalent to 200 bottles of 1.5L water and a total of 7kg of plastic waste.
2. Transport reduction:
One transport trolley can transport 84 Dropson 300L (9kg) cans, equivalent to 25,000 litres of filtered water.

3. Reduction of CO2 emissions:
The filter can produces 233 times less CO2 emissions during transport and 2700 times less weight than bottled water. A single van could transport the same amount of litres of water as 100 heavy trucks with bottled water.
