Dropson Water Softener, Anti-Scale Solution for McDonald’s Torremolinos

The McDonald’s in Torremolinos, part of the globally recognized fast-food chain, is located in one of the busiest areas on the Costa del Sol. As a restaurant with a constant flow of customers, it is essential to ensure that its hot water installations (DHW) operate efficiently, avoiding interruptions that could affect its operations. In this context, protecting its equipment from scale buildup has been a priority for the restaurant.
The hardness of the water in the area led the McDonald’s team to seek a fast and effective solution to prevent scale issues in their DHW installations. Aware of the negative effects of scale—from reduced equipment efficiency to increased maintenance costs—the restaurant chose a technology capable of protecting its systems without relying on traditional methods such as salt-based water softeners, which involve higher water consumption, chemicals, and maintenance. For this reason, Dropson’s technology is ideally suited to meet the demands of a high-consumption installation like McDonald’s Torremolinos.
Protecting Domestic Hot Water Installations
McDonald’s chose to install the Dropson EMI 7500 anti-scale system, which offers effective and sustainable protection against scale buildup in DHW installations without altering the chemical composition of the water. This system, supplied by Saneamientos Dimasa, was selected for its ability to transform scale-forming minerals into non-adherent particles. The Electro Magnetic Impact (EMI) technology by Dropson changes the structure of minerals in the water, preventing them from attaching to equipment surfaces.
The installation of the system was carried out by Sainfos Mijas, who executed the project ensuring a seamless integration into the restaurant’s operations, allowing a continuous flow of water without the scale issues that can affect the efficiency and longevity of DHW equipment.
Benefits of the Dropson EMI 7500 Anti-Scale System
The Dropson EMI 7500 anti-scale system provides multiple benefits that have been crucial for McDonald’s Torremolinos:
• Comprehensive DHW protection: Prevents scale buildup in pipes and hot water equipment, ensuring optimal performance and extending the systems’ lifespan.
• Enhanced energy efficiency: By preventing scale buildup, hot water equipment operates more efficiently, reducing energy consumption.
• Reduced maintenance: The reduction in scale buildup means fewer maintenance interruptions and, therefore, greater continuity of service for the restaurant.
• Sustainability: The Dropson system does not use salt or chemicals, making it a more environmentally friendly solution compared to traditional water softeners.
From this ‘pilot’ experience with the Dropson system at McDonald’s Torremolinos, the chain has experienced an improvement in the operational efficiency of its water systems, reducing the need for maintenance and prolonging the lifespan of its equipment. Additionally, they are considering the possibility of extending this technology to other locations in the region and potentially in other parts of Spain, in line with their commitment to maintaining high operational standards in their facilities.
We extend our thanks to Sainfos Mijas, the installation company, for their professionalism and dedication to this project, as well as to Saneamientos Dimasa for their advice and supply of the equipment.
